There's an old saying about golf. It goes like this...

“Golf is a lot of walking, broken up by disappointment and bad arithmetic.”

Well, whoever quoted these words of wisdom almost certainly never played a round of golf in Tasmania. After all, while there certainly is a lot of walking, it’s mostly “broken up” by staggering views; fresh, clean air; and the knowledge that, at the end of the day, there’s a bounty of award-winning Tasmanian produce to tuck into – whisky, cheese, seafood, beef, pork, wine, cider and beer, just to mention a few!

And as for “bad arithmetic” – when it comes to judging awards, the good folk at Golf Australia Magazine seem to know their maths. Let’s add them up – one, two three, four. Yep! Four Tasmanian courses are now ranked top four in the 2017 Top 100 Australian Public Access Golf Courses.

Does their decision really add up? Why not discover for yourself…

Cape Wickham - 1024x620

#1 CAPE WICKHAM

Cape Wickham is a worthy recipient of Australia’s golfing crown! It’s an ocean-side gem that already ranks among the best in the world. Eight holes play parallel to Bass Strait, with all 18 holes offering staggering ocean views. King Island provides the blank canvas for a playable and spectacular course that offers the serious golfer breathtaking views and thrilling golf.

#2 BARNBOUGLE DUNES

Barnbougle Dunes will make even the canniest Scot feel at home. Scenic views, towering coastal dunes and spectacular holes wind along the coast. Wide-open fairways and exquisite layouts overlook the wilds of Bass Strait, evoking the spirit of the Hibernian coastal courses. Broad and windswept, Barnbougle Dunes is the poster child for ingenious minimalist design.

Barnbougle Lost Farm - 1024x620

#3 BARNBOUGLE LOST FARM

Barnbougle Lost Farm is the twisted sister of Barnbougle Dunes. The 20-hole course has magical greens playing hide and seek amongst the Bass Strait dunes. Breathtakingly beautiful, dramatically different, it cleverly complements the surrounding landscape. Lost Farm offers an array of very different holes – for the brave, and the not so brave. Playing to all points of the compass, there is always a challenge for all abilities.

Ocean Dunes - 1024x620

#4 OCEAN DUNES

Ocean Dunes on King Island is the “new kid” of Tasmania’s dramatic quartet. Operating for just a few short months, it has rapidly muscled its way into Australia’s top four. Covering dramatic seaside terrain with one memorable hole after another, the playing surfaces are first class. You are guaranteed to enjoy heroic tee shots, rolling greens, and unsurpassed ocean views along its two kilometres of wild coastal dunes.
